Graduate Achievements
Texas A&M University graduate students have a strong record of securing external research grants and competitive internal awards. The department regularly offers a course on Proposal Writing. Further training in grant writing is provided through close mentoring by faculty advisors, departmental workshops on grant writing, and a course on Ethics and Professionalism in Anthropology.

Department of Anthropology Student Research Awards
Undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Anthropology are invited to apply for the Inaugural Student Research Award competition.
Eligibility Requirements
- Applicants must be currently enrolled students in the Department of Anthropology. Undergraduates must be anthropology majors.
- Students in both categories must be registered to present their research as a poster during Student Research Week (2012).

- Deadline for registration: February 24th, 2012
- Dates for 2012 Student Research Week: March 20-23, 2012
- Students must be willing to have their work displayed in the Department of Anthropology for up to one year after receiving the award, beginning the week after Student Research Week. Students are encouraged to include additional materials in the display cabinet (photos, brochures, artifacts).
- Optional: If possible, students should be available to present their work in the Department of Anthropology during Parents Weekend (Friday, March 30th, 2012, ~2:00 pm).
Awards
- Awards will be presented in two categories: Undergraduate and Graduate.
- Winners in each category will receive:
- Cash Prize:
- First place - $200
- Second place - $100
- Third place - $50
- Certificate of Achievement
- The honor of having their poster displayed in one of the display cabinets on the 2nd floor of the Department of Anthropology. (Students may temporarily remove the poster if they are scheduled to present at another conference.)
- The honor of presenting their research again during Parents Weekend. (The poster must be put on display in the Department of Anthropology by Thursday, March 29th. Participation at the Parents Weekend event is strongly encouraged, but not required for participation in the contest.)

Deadlines
- Application Form must be submitted by Friday, March 9th (to Marco Valadez).
- Posters must be submitted by Friday, March 23rd (to the main office in the Dept. of Anthropology).
Selection Process
- A small committee of faculty members in the Department of Anthropology will select the winners of the competition. Faculty judges will evaluate the quality of the research and the quality of the presentation. Winners will be informed on Tuesday, March 27th.
